Who Are We?

Big Fish in the Sea is a community-driven mentorship program designed to welcome and support new and incoming staff members of the Dillingham City School District. Our volunteers are passionate community members who are excited to share their love for Dillingham, Alaska, and its unique way of life.

What We Do:

We pair enthusiastic community members with new and incoming Dillingham City School District staff members. Community members will guide, support, and share the rich tapestry of Dillingham's culture, history, and traditions. Together, you can engage in a variety of activities, from hiking and subsistence fishing to berry picking and attending community potlucks and events.

Why Big Fish in the Sea?

• Integration: We understand that transitioning to a new community can be challenging. Our program aims to ease this transition by connecting new staff members with seasoned community members who can provide invaluable insights and support.

• Support System: Community members act as a lifeline for new staff members, offering assistance with transportation, answering questions about local services like mail and shipping, and providing a helping hand when needed.

How Can You Participate?

Participation is flexible and tailored to fit your lifestyle. If you're passionate about hiking, bring your mentee along on your next adventure. If you're more into community events, invite them to join you. The idea is to include them in your everyday activities without adding extra tasks or commitments.
