Press Release

Dillingham City School Board Appoints New Superintendent of Schools

The Dillingham City School Board is pleased to announce their unanimous choice for a new Superintendent, Dr. Jason Johnson, beginning July 1, 2018.
Three semifinalist candidates and the full school board attended tours of the Dillingham schools and community on February 2nd.  They had the opportunity to have a wonderful salmon chowder lunch with elementary school students.  The candidates took questions at three forums: a small, high school/middle school meeting, and administrative team meeting and a community potluck and public forum.  The Board wishes to express their sincere thanks for everyone who participated and supported the events on February 2nd with the candidates.  On the morning of February 3rd, the board interviewed each candidate separately for one hour in an open meeting format.  Immediately following the interviews the board met in executive session review the appointment of their choice from three exceptionally qualified candidates.

Dr. Johnson made the following statement upon his appointment:
“Today, my dreams were certainly true in learning that I would have the opportunity to live in such a wonderful community which has committed itself to the best interests of their youth; to serve for such a genuine school board that truly desires to see every student achieve their personal aspirations and to work along side an immensely talented, certified and classified staff that made my heart jump upon entering their buildings.
To the community of Dillingham, to every parent and guardian, to every staff member and to every student . . . I am extremely humbled by the opportunity to support of each of you, I am grateful for the opportunity that your school board has extended to me and I am honored to be a new wolverine!”

Dr. Johnson is currently a lead principal and coach for the Yukon-Koyukuk School District school in Nulato, Alaska, having resided there for the past 3 years.  Previously Mr. Johnson was a teacher in the Dominican Republic.  Prior to that he was in private business and served as a full time NCO in the Indiana National Guard.  He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Indiana University, an M.S.Ed from that same institution and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University.  Dr. Johnson has agreed to a 3-year contract.
